With loose hands. Works from the Schenkung Sammlung Hoffmann

The saying »leap of faith« obscures the fact that this leap into the unknown may be ingrained in what is only hesitantly called trust in God. In the twelve works of contemporary art shown in the exhibition, the leap of faith is not always undertaken full of optimism, in search of something new. Sometimes it leads to weightless flying, sometimes to a frozen limbo, sometimes to a thunderous or silent disappearance. These works tend to show the moment of departure, rather than those of landing

in a new harbor, moments of in-between existence as extraordinary and individual states, a common human experience. The exhibition borrows its title from a work by Marijke van Warmerdam, in which a hands-free ride on a bicycle leads not to a crash landing, but to breaking the bonds of gravity. The door to imagination is opened to reality.

The exhibition is part of the Lausitz Festival

The exhibition is the second cooperation between the Lausitz Festival and the Schenkung Sammlung Hoffmann, Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden. With the works shown, it responds not only to the invitation of this year’s festival to devote oneself to the particularities of a state, a phase or a space, which is alluded to in the neologism »in-betweenness«. At the same time, it exists in dialogue with the hidden and transforming spaces in the Park Bad Muskau.
