Ortsgespräche
Six years, 18 exhibitions and around 100 artists – with this positive track record, the exhibition series Ortsgespräche, an initiative of the Schenkung Sammlung Hoffmann, came to an end in 2025. Launched in 2020, it was designed to raise the profile of the Schenkung Sammlung Hoffmann beyond Dresden’s urban space and make it accessible to partners in so-called rural areas.
For the initiative was guided by the idea that contemporary art seeks to remain in motion and unfolds its power as a catalyst for thought and debate particularly through lively dialogue with other works, positions and approaches, and through constant re-examination. Thus, at the various venues for contemporary art, works selected by the local curators from the holdings of the Schenkung Sammlung Hoffmann and the Sammlung Hoffmann, Berlin, served as starting points for ‘site-specific dialogues’. At each venue, five artists working in the region were invited to respond to the work under discussion with new pieces. Whilst at times the theme, at times the form, and at times the context sparked debate, these exhibitions made one thing clear above all: the layers of meaning in a work of art are and remain as diverse as the questions posed to it.
